Score Submission FAQ
Scores can be submitted by starting a thread in This Forum. Please read the "How to start a high score thread" announcement at the top of the forum and the following faq first.
Do I need proof for my scores?

For People holding Site Records

People currently holding records are encouraged to send in proof where they can, but I appreciate that they joined the site under different rules. People getting new site records are requested to provide proof within a month of achiving their scores. Once a player has proven that they are capable of top level play they don't need to send in proof for every single new record but I would like to keep things reasonably up to date, ie an update of proofs every 2 or 3 months. Current proof for scores are available on the Site Records page.

For People not holding Site Records

While you do not need to provide proof at this time, we like to see pictures/videos of people's scores where possible. We operate on a system of trust and mutual respect and are a pretty friendly community who recognise fellow serious gamers pretty easily.
Can I use an imported copy of the game?
Yes, you can use any version of the game be it UK, US or JP provided it is offical Sega software played on official Sega Saturn hardware. Using an offical Saturn with a region switch or a 50/60hz switch is also acceptable.
Are there any scores I can not submit?
We do not accept score achived using the following methods:
  • Emulators.
  • Using Action Replays or similar devices to alter the gameplay mechanics.
  • Backups/burns/cdrs of NiGHTS.
  • Exploits such as the Splash Garden Switch loophole/Stick Canyon Glitch. If any other glitches are discovered in the future they will noted on the front page and added here
  • Any score which cannot be saved on a memory card or the Saturns internal memory. For example, letting the timer run out while milking stars on TS2/3.

In the event you have found a glitch, bug or exploit we haven't mentoned on the site or forums and are not sure if it is acceptable please ask. While we dont accept glitches for high score purposes they are huge amounts of fun to play with and there is a distinct possbility we will start a "Glitch score only page" at some point.
Can I use any boss?
You can indeed. To select your boss, follow these directions:

From the opening screen:
  • Press start
  • Load your save game
  • on the dreams screen press "Z"
  • select "option"
  • Select "Night maren
  • Select "Random Off"
  • choose a boss from the list

How do I view my boss times?
  • Press start
  • Load your save game
  • on the dreams screen press "Z"
  • select options
  • Select "Night maren"
  • Select "Best Time"
  • choose a boss from the list by pressing up or down.
Who should I use for Twin seeds?
Claris and Elliot play exactly the same in Twin Seeds so use whoever you prefer.
My memory card died, What should I do?
The backup memory is notoriously problematic so provided you have your scores accurately noted down you are welcome to submit them as long as they were achived by you playing the game normally on a real Saturn. One thing to remember, if your scores are incredibly high or unusual in some way, we will possibly ask for proof and this will be more difficult if you dont have a way to photograph/video evidence.
Why are there only link scores for Mare 1 for each Dream?
There is a known bug in the game which will carry your Mare 1 link score over to Mare 2. If you paraloop a group of items then enter the ideya palace before the items hit NiGHTS the bug comes into effect. Whatever link you had at the end of mare 1 is now displayed as your mare 2 link record (provided it was higher than your previous mare 2 link record). This does not give you any extra points but it does mare it very difficuly to accurately judge link scores above mare 1 of any given level.

A further problem is that in some levels, SC4 and SG4 leap to mind, it is possible to get a high link by collecting as many chips as possible as Nights, letting your time run out and collecting all the chips as the kids. This will easily get a link of 50 or more in some cases which is higher than any link obtainable while playing as NiGHTS.
How do I view my link records?
  • Press start
  • Load your save game
  • On the dreams choose the dream you want and press "x"
  • Mare 1 should be selected by default.
  • Press "c"
